John Gillett is a digital media artist, whose recent practice is rooted in long experience as a curator and mediator of contemporary visual art. He was artist in residence in the digital media suite at ArtSway in the New Forest in 2001-02, where his work developed as a combination of performance-based video and computer-controlled animation. His use of computers and video as interpretative tools in gallery education, and his practice as a book designer, have given him a strong interest in how information is best articulated and received. These concerns are reflected in the works he makes which tend to combine biographical elements, reflections on the nature of art and perception, and elements of commentary or explanation. He has written extensively on contemporary art.
